Potentially Painting traverses the resurgence of craftsmanship and skill in an age saturated by digital and automated technologies. The exhibition presents the work of five artists whose practices explore depth, relief, and object-hood alongside works that foreshadow an emphasis on materiality. Collectively, they push the boundaries between the medium, the surface and the mode of application. They are very much enacting a reskilling of contemporary art.
The artists in Potentially Painting explore paint in order to draw from its materiality and its transformative potential. They question what painting may now entail.
